Accounts, not one settled pedigree
Leafly’s graph gives Chemdawg and Hindu Kush, while its narrative says a Northern California strain was supposedly crossed with Chemdawg, Lemon Thai and a Hindu Kush plant from Amsterdam in Florida.1
Weedmaps lists Chemdog and Lemon Thai and says a longstanding theory includes Hindu or Pakistani Kush.2
| Source | Published account |
|---|---|
| Leafly | Chemdawg + Hindu Kush in the graph; Lemon Thai in the narrative1 |
| Weedmaps | Chemdog + Lemon Thai; broader Hindu/Pakistani Kush theory2 |
| Humboldt Seed Organization | Lemon Thai/Pakistan × Chemdawg for its feminized line6 |
| White Label / Sensi Seeds | True origins unknown; believed Chemdawg, Lemon Thai and Pakistani Kush7 |
Florida to Los Angeles: an attributed account
Leafly reports that Matt “Bubba” Berger brought five Florida OG cuttings to Josh Del Rosso in Los Angeles in 1996 and that one survived.8
Weedmaps also places the cut in Florida before Los Angeles, but its name account differs from common OG expansions.2
These are oral-history accounts, so this guide does not claim a verified original breeder or pre-1996 origin date.2,8
What “OG” means is also disputed
Leafly reports Original Gangster and Ocean Grown as common readings.1
Sensi Seeds says the name origin is unknown while repeating those theories, whereas Weedmaps says Josh D used OG as a shortened form of Original.2,7
Cuts, variants and seed lines
Leafly names Tahoe OG, SFV OG and Ghost OG as OG Kush phenotypes; its OG-family history says variants were developed for differing climates.1,8
The two seed sellers opened here publish different pedigrees and specifications, so their products cannot define every OG Kush label.6,7

Plain OG Kush versus named variants
The aggregate uses 379 strict-matched flower tests and excludes 996 near matches, including 705 flower records.9
The two leading exclusions are “Lemon OG Kush” (224) and “Unprocessed Flower - Platinum OG Kush” (137), so related names do not become plain OG Kush lab data.9
