OG Kush lab report

For OG Kush, the time series is the standout: qualifying years moved from a 2018 median of 17.64% to 23.50% in 2023, with an overall change of +5.86 points.1 On terpenes, β-caryophyllene led 50% of tests, while Leafly's published myrcene claim did not match the test-by-test lead.1,2

Key findings

  1. Median THC for OG Kush rose from 17.64% in 2018 to 23.50% in 2023, changing by +5.86 points across qualifying years.1
  2. For terpene leadership, β-caryophyllene led 50% of tests; Leafly's myrcene claim matched only 23%.1,2
  3. 63% of flower tests met 20% total THC, but only 14% met 25% and 1.3% met 30%.1
  4. Lab medians among frequent testers ran from 18.82% at Lab E in Massachusetts to 25.31% at Lab D in Maryland, differing by 6.49 points.1
  5. In the Weedmaps snapshot, 387 store listings carried OG Kush flower; menus in 19 of 27 markets had it, ranking 12th within the 58-strain set.3

How often does OG Kush meet 20%, 25% and 30% THC?

Among flower tests, OG Kush cleared the 20% total THC line in 63%; after that, the odds fell sharply, to 14% for the 25% cutoff and 1.3% for the 30% cutoff, with a 20.87% median.1

By state, Washington had the higher 20% rate, 69% across 123 tests with a 21.00% median; Michigan was lower at 50% across 40 tests with a 19.98% median.1 The state split is about the market too, since growers, labs and testing rules differ from place to place.

Do OG Kush THC claims line up with lab tests?

For OG Kush, 1 of the 2 single THC figures we checked landed above the lab median of 20.87%; the highest, 25% THC from Leafly, had 14% of tests at or above it, about 1 in 7.1,2

The lower single figure, 20% THC from Humboldt Seed Organization, matched a threshold that 63% of tests met, about 6 in 10.1,4

The published ranges were close together: 19–25% THC from White Label / Sensi Seeds covered 57% of lab tests, while 20–26% THC from AllBud covered 54%.1,5,6 These outside figures do not identify what is in a specific jar; the relevant record for that purchase is its batch certificate of analysis.

Which terpene leads OG Kush in lab tests?

The test-by-test lead for OG Kush was about half, not a firm majority: β-caryophyllene led 50% of 127 terpene tests, with limonene at 26% and β-myrcene at 23%.1

The claim from Leafly names myrcene as dominant for OG Kush.2 In the tests, β-myrcene led 23%, while β-caryophyllene led 50%.1

Most of the terpene panel is local to Nevada: 106 of the 127 tests came from labs there, so the shares mainly describe that market's flower.1

Which strains have a terpene mix like OG Kush?

The closest typical terpene mixes to OG Kush were Sour Diesel at 96%, Wedding Cake at 95% and Ice Cream Cake at 94%, while Durban Poison was the least similar of the 36 compared at 42%.1

The close matches share a β-caryophyllene lead in their typical profiles: Sour Diesel, Wedding Cake and Ice Cream Cake all have that lead, while Durban Poison is led by terpinolene.1

Method note: we take each eligible strain's median levels for eight terpenes, express them as shares of the eight-terpene total, then score how much of two profiles overlaps; identical mixes score 100. A strain must have at least 30 tests with individual terpene results to enter the comparison. This is a chemistry-only comparison, not a prediction of how OG Kush feels.

Is OG Kush above average for THC?

In our strain comparison, OG Kush sat mid-pack by median total THC, ranked 26th of 58 at 20.87%, between Gushers at 20.95% and Super Lemon Haze at 20.84%.1 By high-THC frequency, 14% of tests were at 25% or higher, ranking 29th.1

The middle half was 18.06%–23.36%, covering 5.30 points; among 52 sufficiently tested strains, OG Kush placed 28th by narrowness, which is about average consistency.1

Which labs report the widest OG Kush THC gap?

Among 5 frequent labs, each with at least 20 OG Kush tests, Lab E in Massachusetts had the lowest median, 18.82%, while Lab D in Maryland had the highest, 25.31%; the lab-to-lab difference was 6.49 points.1

Because labs receive different growers' flower, the gap is not evidence by itself that a lab reports high; grower mix is part of it. We mask lab names here: Lab A is simply the largest tester, while the downloadable file includes the real lab names.

Does higher-THC OG Kush also carry more terpenes?

Yes: in the 168 OG Kush tests with THC and terpene totals, the group at 23.56% or higher had a 2.12% median terpene total, versus 1.25% for tests at 19.44% or lower.1

The gap between those terpene medians was 0.87 points.1 The same direction appeared in 2 of 2 states that met the sample floor: Nevada up and Maryland up.1 For Nevada, median total terpenes were 1.20% in the lower-THC third and 1.91% in the higher-THC third.1

Total terpenes are aroma compounds measured by weight; this table does not say how OG Kush will feel.

What has changed in OG Kush THC over time?

OG Kush's qualifying yearly results climbed: 2018 posted a 17.64% median across 21 tests, while 2023 posted 23.50% across 118, for an overall change of +5.86 points.1

The state-fixed check also rises in Washington: 2021 recorded 20.00%, and 2023 recorded 22.00%, with a state change of +2.00 points.1

Years with fewer than 20 tests are excluded from this trend check.

What this data cannot tell you

  • These tests are OG Kush flower from 8 states in the 2015–2024 lab window; they are not proof of any individual jar, whose batch certificate of analysis is the document to read.1
  • All of this is chemistry measurement, not a guide to how OG Kush will feel to a particular person.
